Common questions about our classes

How much Chinese is used in class?

GoEast Kids lessons are conducted primarily in Chinese, with Chinese typically making up 60%–80% of regular class time. During the trial lesson and early sessions, teachers use more English (roughly half) to help children follow along, stay engaged, and feel comfortable. As children adapt, the proportion of Chinese increases steadily, building real immersion at a pace that keeps kids confident.

What if my child can’t focus?

Teachers use stories, games, and task-switching to keep attention high. It’s completely normal for kids to need a few sessions to settle in, most are fully engaged within 2–3 classes.

My child is shy and reluctant to speak Chinese. What do you do?

This is very common. GoEast Kids teachers use stories, interactive activities, and gentle prompting to help children transition from “repeating after the teacher” to “speaking on their own.” Most children start opening up once they’re comfortable in class. You’ll typically see a noticeable change after 2–4 lessons.

Does my child need to learn Chinese characters? Is it too difficult?

It’s not too difficult. GoEast Kids introduces characters in two stages: recognition first, writing later. In the early phase, children build character recognition naturally through picture books, stories, and classroom interaction. Once children have a solid speaking foundation, character writing is introduced gradually through games and interactive exercises, keeping the process engaging rather than intimidating.

How is my child’s progress measured?

Through listening, speaking, reading, and writing assessments, class participation, and homework. You’ll receive regular reports so you can see exactly how your child is growing.
