What your child learns, and how you’ll know

Placed at the right level

A short online level check before camp means your child joins a class of up to 8, matched by age and level, and starts learning on day one.

Three lessons every morning

9:00–11:50, with course content for each level, taught by native Mandarin teachers with master’s degrees.

Updates every evening

Our camp consultant sends you learning feedback: what your child worked on in class that day and how they did, with photos.

A final presentation

On the last day, each child presents in Chinese to the whole camp. Parents are welcome to come and watch, and every camper receives a certificate of completion.

Afternoons: Chinese culture and out in Shanghai

After lunch, full-day campers head into hands-on culture workshops, from dumplings and pottery to calligraphy and ink painting, and out into the city, from neighborhood streets to cultural sites.

Along the way, they practice their Chinese for real, with each other and with the local people they meet.

It’s the part kids tell us they enjoy most, and often when they realize Chinese is more than a school subject.

What parents say

“When we picked her up after class, she was way more willing to speak Chinese with us… Every single day they sent us a detailed update on how she was doing—what she learned, what she nailed, and what needed a bit more practice… Seeing how happy and into it she looked in those pictures gave me total peace of mind.”

Parent of a 10-year-old · Summer 2026

“They started using Chinese words and speaking in Chinese to the shop keepers when shopping at our neighborhoods… the stories about the classmates, teachers plus staffs at the camp dominate most of our family time in China”

David
Parent of a 12-year-old · Summer 2026

“The camp is very well organized with very caring and supportive teachers and staff members. The program is very comprehensive, nice balance of in-class and on-site cultural activities.”

FAQ

My child is a complete beginner. Will they keep up?

Yes. A short online level check before camp places every child at the right level, from complete beginners to children who speak Chinese at home. Lessons are mainly in Chinese, and teachers use English when it helps. We teach simplified characters.

My child isn’t that into Chinese. Is camp a good fit?

Often it’s the drills and memorizing kids push back on, not Chinese itself.

Mornings are small groups of up to 8, and afternoons are hands-on: dumpling making, pottery and city outings, where children use Chinese as they go. Not sure it’s right for your child? Book a consultation and tell us about them.

Do I need to stay in Shanghai?

Yes. It’s a day camp with no overnight stay, so a parent or guardian needs to be in Shanghai for the whole camp. Children go home each day.

Where is the camp, and where can we stay?

At our Zhongshan Park campus in Changning District, near Zhongshan Park Station (Metro Lines 2, 3 and 4). Address and map

Families stay with relatives or friends, or at a hotel. Once you book, we’ll send you a list of hotels near the campus.

What’s included in the price?

Mandarin lessons, snacks, medical insurance for the camp period, daily learning feedback and a certificate of completion. The full-day track also includes lunch and afternoon activities. Flights and accommodation aren’t included.
